Unhappy with the appearance of your smile?

There are a few different types of veneers. LUMINEERS® and porcelain tooth veneers. Used to improve the appearance or shape of your smile, or in place of a traditional crown, veneers are an easy way to improve your smile.

What are veneers made of?

A veneer is made out of porcelain. It’s essentially a cover that fits over the front of your existing tooth, except that it may be shaped differently in a situation where you want to eliminate a gap or correct a tooth that may be crooked. They are especially popular for use on the high-visibility front teeth. Veneers are every bit as durable as other dental work, but we do recommend wearing a nightguard if you have a history of bruxism (clenching or grinding teeth) to protect your investment.

How is a veneer made?

We will review your smile and work with you to pick out the best color for you. As you know, teeth come in many shades of white, and we will be able to match your other teeth exactly. After that, we will consult with you if there are gaps in your smile that you wish to close.

Following your consultation, we will measure your teeth and a veneer will be custom-made for you in a professional laboratory. Since it’s custom-made for you, that means it will fit your teeth perfectly!

Why consider veneers?

People get veneers for many reasons. The most obvious reason is for cosmetic purposes when a tooth is stained to the point that its white coloration cannot be restored; however, this is only one of the many reasons veneers are used.

Some people use them to correct a tooth that may be slightly crooked. A veneer may be constructed to fit over an existing tooth and shaped so that it closes a gap between that tooth and its neighbor. Similarly, a veneer may be used to give it a uniform appearance to a misshapen tooth. In the case of a tooth that is too large, we can use a special drill to reduce the size of the tooth and then attach a veneer over the top of that tooth; if a tooth is too small a veneer may be used to enlarge it. Finally, if you have chipped a tooth, a veneer is a good option to repair the tooth and give your smile a new look at the same time.

What is involved in getting a veneer?

We will measure your teeth and determine the thickness of the veneer that you need. After the veneer has been created in a laboratory your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned in preparation for placing the veneer. Then a special adhesive will be applied to the tooth and the veneer will be affixed to the tooth. After using a special light to harden the adhesive you will be sent home with instructions for care of your new veneer.
