What Can You Do About Buck Teeth?

Posted on 4/15/2016 by Zac Bird
A man embarrassed of his smile because, he's suffering from buck teeth. Are you embarrassed by your buck teeth? Many people are, despite the fact that genetic factors are often the reason for developing this bite problem.

When you have buck teeth, your front teeth are probably protruding and long, and after years of dealing with it and the jokes that often follow, you'll be ready to correct the problem.

Tooth Contouring

One of the best ways that you can treat buck teeth is with dental contouring, sometimes referred to as tooth reshaping. This procedure involves removing a small part of the tooth enamel in order to reshape the tooth.

After the shape is altered, the tooth will be polished to match the appearance of the adjacent teeth. Tooth contouring doesn't require a local anesthetic and is generally free of side effects minus a couple of days of sensitivity.

There are a few limitations when it comes to contouring. If the pulp tissue is too close to the surface of your teeth, tooth reshaping might not be a possibility. The same is true for people with significant tooth decay and those who have unhealthy gum tissue.

Tooth contouring is also best used for minor cosmetic concerns, but it can also help to treat chips, bulges and pits, teeth of irregular shapes, and long teeth.

Dental Braces

Another popular treatment option for buck teeth is braces, although this treatment method is generally more expensive and takes longer than tooth contouring. There are several options to choose from when it comes to braces, ranging from the traditional metal variety to lingual braces that are placed on the back of your teeth.

If your bite issue is minor, Invisalign braces might also be an option for correcting your problem, although this clear, plastic aligner system is usually only used for cases that don't need a major adjustment.
